Owen Roberts

Owen Roberts (1875-1955) was an American lawyer and U.S. Supreme Court justice. He was nominated to the court in 1930 by President Herbert Hoover (R) and served until his retirement in 1945.


A tax…signifies an exaction for the support of the Government. The word has never been thought to connote the expropriation of money from one group for the benefit of another.
