I’m still working through processing a huge backlog of photos for posting to the site. These are from two Caribbean Cruises in early 2023.
The first cruise was a short February getaway to the Bahamas on the Norwegian Sky out of Miami, Florida. The planned itinerary included stops in Freeport and at Norwegian’s private island, Great Stirrup Cay. The weather did not cooperate and the plan changed multiple times; ultimately, we ported in Nassau (which was not even on the original plan) and had an extra at-sea day.
The second cruise was a ten-day journey on the Norwegian Sky out of Panama. The journey began in Colon, Panama, went to the islands of Aruba, Curacao, and Bonaire, then to Puerto Limon, Costa Rica, transited the Panama Canal to the Pacific Ocean, and finally arrived in Panama City, Panama. This one went exactly to plan—and it was amazing.
Enjoy!
Nassau, Bahamas
Nassau was not on our original itinerary, so we sort of played it “by-ear.” We saw the Queen’s Staircase, went to Mass at Saint Francis Xavier Cathedral (the oldest Catholic Church in the Bahamas), visited John Watling’s Distillery (filming site of the “Nambutu Embassy” in Casino Royale), saw flamingos and other creatures at Ardastra Gardens, and ate seafood at Goldie’s Conch House. I didn’t get photos of everything because I was not in a very photographic mood. Sorry!
Renaissance Island, Aruba
In the port of Oranjestad, Aruba, we went to a private island—Renaissance Island—with flamingos and iguanas and other random creatures. We also walked around the city of Oranjestad (briefly). Here, too, I didn’t take a lot of photos . . . but here are a few!
Playa Grandi and Willemstad, Curacao
The ship docked in Willemstad, Curacao. We took a tour across Curacao to the beach of Playa Grandi (where we saw sea turtles . . . but I didn’t get photos because I was busy snorkeling), then to look at some flamingos in their natural habitat. After the end of the tour we walked around the city of Willemstad.
Salt Flats, Bonaire
Our next port was Kralendijk, Bonaire. Bonaire is a special municipality of the Netherlands. Here we took an excursion to the salt flats on the south side of the island and a resort on the southwest coast.
Puerto Limon, Costa Rica
After visiting each of the “ABC” islands, we headed back to Central America—specifically, Puerto Limon, Costa Rica. There we went on an excursion by bus, boat, and train into the area’s rainforest to look at monkeys, birds, sloths, and more.
Panama City and Canal, Panama
The cruise started in Colon, Panama, and ended in Panama City. The next-to-last day of the cruise was a transit of the historic Panama Canal. The photos below are from our time in Panama both at the beginning and end of the cruise, and some random stuff from the ship.
